dvd combo doesn't work since upgrading to sp3

Can someone suggest why my dvd/cd will not recognize any type of disc since I
upgraded to the sp3 service pack? The driver and hardware say they are
running fine but the player will not read any type of disc.

Can you boot off a bootable CD?
