DVD/CDRW NOT WORKING

HELP...
I have a Packard Bell l medis 5053 which has a Multimedia combo DVD/CDRW.
This is 29 months old, for some reason the combo won't work.
I put a dvd or cd in and it says can't find disc, when I open the front it
makes a whirling noise and scratches the back of the disc, this has happened
in the past month. Anyone know what the problem is?

Do I need to buy another DVD?, if so am I able to buy one that you just plug
in via a usb lead?, or does anyone know how much it would cost to have this
fixed..
I have no idea about computers and don't know how to remove anything to fix
this..

It sounds like your combo drive has failed. It needs to be replaced.
Certainly you could buy an external writer if you prefer. Otherwise,
since you say you don't know how to replace the drive, take the machine
to a local shop and have them do it for you.
