DVD/CD writer driver updates?

Following some unexpected cd writing problems I want to check if I have the
latest drivers from MS but am having a little trouble with checking what is
what on the updating site.

We installed a Pioneer DVR-115D, DVD/CD reader/writer drive last year, but
it uses XP's own driver suite. On the windows update site, the only
reference to a dvd writer I can find is to an HP one.

Device manager says that the driver in use is 01/07/2001 5.1.2535.0
The tab for 'details' lists a whole lot of other stuff which is meaningless
to me.

Have I got the latest/best driver for this device?
If not, can someone point me at the correct one.

Cheers,

They do not recommend using other than the MS driver, and as mine is dated
2001 I thought it likely that MS would have updated it by now.

Pioneer do have a later firmware - though other threads I have found have
mentioned that my 1.18 version is the latest. Pioneer also warn that
getting the firmware upgrade wrong can render the drive useless, but the pdf
file that comes down with the upgrade .exe file is just a list of equipment
with no instructions!

Clicking the .exe file just flashes through a command prompt screen, and
apparently does nothing else. Though doing this twice does get a note that
I am trying to overwrite a file that already exists (ie the one just written
in the last attempt, that left the version still at 1.18.)

Automatic updates, where are you when we need you!

Cheers,

I've updated the firmware now at least, and will see if that achieves
anything.
