Thanks for the heads up ozzy. Too bad I didn't know that earlier, as I
just bought a spindle of 8X 50 DVD-Rs!
I'm glad to report that BHA tech support sent me a detailed plan of
attack, some of which I implemented (I balked at rearranging my drives
on the IDE channels, flashing my MB BIOS, and monkeying with the
system's DMA settings).
I did appreciate their sending me Adaptec's more recent aspi drivers
as an e-mail attachment, and I followed their advice to update the
aspi drivers, and also to update B's Clip5. Strangely, nothing
happened right after all this upgrading and rebooting, until the
second reboot (I think). In fact, I had just removed CDburnerXP, and
was about to remove the BHA software too, when I decided to reinstall
Nero Express 5.5.9 another time, to see if it really would burn CD-RWs
on the LG drive. I'd just finished installing Nero, and the system
reboooted without allowing my uninstaller to do it's thing, and when
it came back up, there was B's Clip without its exclamation mark.
When I popped a DVD+RW into the tray, B's Clip popped up and offered
to format the drive. And sure enough, BHA Gold5.5 now recognized the
drive too, and allowed me to copy a test file onto it.
And all this despite BHA's stern warnings that their software wouldn't
work if there were any other burner programs installed.
Much as I'd like to have a faster burner, I'm glad the damn thing
works at all. Maybe I was too quick to delete CDBurnerXP, and it would
work now too. I can only assume it was the ASPI driver update that
made things work.
OTHOH, how come Nero Express was able to detect and recognize the
drive, if only as a CD-R/RW burner, with the old '99 ASPI drivers?
