corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Now i have read through the forms and found someone who has had this message

windows XP and it didnt do anything on my comp. My comp wont recognise any
CD of any kind (Games, Music, DVD). Please Can someone help out!

Hi Freddy

Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to reply to my query. The
only issue i have is that im using Windows Vista and that page is for XP. The
file to download does open in Vista.

Can you help?

Allan Davies,

Just print it out. It's not a download. You print it and read it.
Printing it makes it handy to reference while you are working on the fix. I
downloaded it just fine with Vista. It's a print job.

Allen Davies,

Here is some background information on the issue, which likely provides more
information than you ever wanted to know, but it's interesting and know the
reason for what is causing the problem. Oh, the Microsoft publication is
also good for use in Vista. The problem existed before Vista came to live
with us. Here is the background:

Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some
player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into
Windows. These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the
hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or
DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

These filter drivers sometimes have problems that can cause the CD or DVD
drive to stop working correctly. The device entry for the CD or DVD drive in
the Device Manager may show up with an error descriptor that reads "The
device could not start." Additionally, there may be an error message that
reads "One of the filter drivers for this device is invalid." The devices
themselves do not show up in Explorer. Error codes for the device include
code 31, code 32, code 19 or code 39, and sometimes the even more ominous
warning "Your registry might be corrupted" appears.

Fixing the problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the
third-party device drivers.

I believe I have got a smilar problem, having just taken delviery of a new
computer with Vista.
None of my XP games CD's load and when I try opening them under computer the
drive opens and I get an Insert Disk Message.

I bought a Acer Aspire 3680 about a month ago. My cd-dvd runs and the LED
lights up but the drive is not recognized by the computer. I can't load any
programs or play cd's or any dvd's. In device manager my drive is listed:
TSST corp CDW/DVD TS-L462D ATA Device. When I access PROPERTIES, under
Device Status: Code 39 Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. The driver provider is
Microsoft and the version is 6.0.6000.16386. Under the Details tab the
Problem Code Value is 00000027.
