disc is full & the file type is raw. any views please

Vince, that's a typical symptom of the drive going flaky. You could try a
drive lense cleaner or use canned air and gently apply thru the drawer
opening. Gently.

In vince29 had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

One other thing to HOPE for is that it's not a hardware problem at all but
rather a software issue that's usually caused by installing third party
software to control some aspect of reading or writing to an optical drive.
The entries to the upperfilters and lowerfilters can become corrupted and
once in a blue moon it seems to happen without any third party software
intervention at all but that's quite seldom.

Before replacing anything give this a shot:

Missing CD/DVD Drives:

It's generally seen that they simply don't show up but, well, that's not
always the case and varies based on the degree of corruption. Try the
automated fix from Doug Knox (MVP as well) that's linked from the site prior
to trying the manual registry editing.

If possible it might also be in your interest to check the drive in another
PC and to try the drive from the other PC in that PC that's giving you
problems.
