DVD/CD Drive not working HELP !!!!!

I am not computer buff at all I'm afraid and I just though I would ask here
before I get an expert in. My multi media PC is only 5 months old and my
DVD/CDC drive is not wotking. Nothing happens at all can't RUN anything
manually and no files found. Has this thing given up the ghost?

thank you for your reply I will try these.
My computer is a Hi-Grade EZ Buddie Multi Media PC. First of all I though
it was something to do with me cleaning the Registry so I restored but that
did not help.

Also:

Watch your display during the bootup process to determine if your
computer's Power On Self Test (POST) is detecting the drive. If the
drive doesn't show up here there may be a loose connection, jumper
configuration problem, CMOS configuration problem or some other hardware
failure.

If you have a bootable windows XP instalation CD determine if you can
boot from that CD. If you can, a software configuration issue is a
posible cause of your problem. This could occur in connection to the
unistallation of some popular third party CD burning applications. It
could probably also occur if those installations become corrupted.
