I am in the market for a DVD burner and have the following choices, any help
on which would be the best to go for:

NEC 2500
Lite-on LDW 851
Sony DW118A
Pioneer 107

I've always been happy with LiteOn CDRW drives
Sony DW118A
Pioneer 107

I'm very happy so far with my Pioneer 107D :)

1: Pioneer 107 Highly praised on dvd forums.
2: NEC 2500 Great burner and not picky about media.
3: Lite-on LDW 851 Lite-on were the cd burner kings but dvd forums do not
rate the Lite-on dvd burners very highly.
4: Sony DW118A Very picky on media.

Get the Pioneer 107 or NEC 2500

I use the NEC 2500 which I purchased as an OEM. I use Nero 6 with it,
couldn't be happier.

"Now the game is clear, there is no longer any possibility of an alliance
with the Anglo-Saxons. We can see the next war panning out- Europe against
America. We'll be reconciled with the Fritzes. We will be a very strong
alliance...When I am in power, I shall ask Russia for time to reorganize
after the war without her intervention.. .I shall then have accomplished
what Hitler failed to do- become the master of Europe."

Only one choice here, Plextor PX-712A.

I just read that Sony and Phillips will have dual layer burners out in 2
months. Only 2X however, and the media is like $6 each. Wait?

The site below is probably one of the heaviest hit sources for finding out
about DVD burners. From what I've read and bought myself the folks who give
their own opions of the drives are pretty accurate.

If I had the choice I wouldn't hesitate to get the Pioneer.
Plextor would be first, but they're $60 more and the Pioneer (106-D) that
I've been using for the past 8 months has shown itself to be of exceptional
quality.

I have an earlier version of the Liteon and have had no errors burning
with it yet. Something that can't be said of any of the cd burners
I've owned.

Depends, the Sony will be over $200 when it arrives so maybe getting a
cheaper one now and upgrading again in 18 months is a better idea. The
media isn't too expensive though when you consider that those $6 disks
will hold the same as 12 CDs.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I bought the NEC 2500 OEM this morning for
£62.

I have used it once successfully so far without any problems.

Cheers
