Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I recently bought 2
SATA Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1L SCSI CD rom Drives. I installed them and I
cannot burn to them. I am running Win XP, 2 GB RAM, 2.4 GHz AMD dual
core. Everything worked fine before I installed them. Is there
anything specific I should check.

There is something critical missing from your posting.

What DVD burner package are you using ?

AFAIK, WinXP doesn't burn DVD's as part of the OS.
I think the only built-in burning feature is for some kind of CD format.
(IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service.) For DVD, you'll need a separate program.

When I buy a drive (which isn't often), I look for one that
includes a bundled burning program. My last drive had some
version of Nero on it.

I had a problem with Nero, but is was caused by using a software that
mounted ISO images. It was like a virtual CD software. The burner would
freeze soon after the burn started. Disabling the virtual CD feature
fixed that.

What would happen, if you uninstalled the burning software, and then
reinstalled it ?

First things first. When you go into My Computer (or whatever you
changed that klutzy term to), does it show the new drives? If not,
did you go into your computer BIOS to make sure SATA is turned on?

They're not SCSI and they're not CD and they're not ROM. But you got
the model number correct ;-)

I've had good experience with Nero Burning Rom v6 for several years and
several--about 6 different-- burners. I've been selling my used ones as
newer ones come out. Most have been NEC, but a few hp's, samsung's,
lite-on's. HTH, s

Forgot to say, if your dvd's are quite new, I'd find their newest
drivers on line and re-install them. Also, since I'm not familiar w/Nero v7
untla(ULTRA?), as one said, try completely uninstalling it and
re-installing. If that seems to 'try' & yet fail to burn, I'd try Nero 6 as
I mentioned above. (It actually seems as if I briefly tried some flavor of
Nero 7 & immediately went back to 6--6 wasn't broken and 7 seemed to be?!)
Again, luck to you. s
