DVD burner only recongnizes regular cd's and cd-rom

can some one help me out here my DVD Burner is new just get it lest then 2 week old work for 2 day and then it **** up.
It will not read any DVD or see any DVD that i put in the drive that dvd movies and blanks dvd it will not see any of it at all.
only see CDrom and any cd it see it but not DVD. i have a I/O Magic 4x DVD bruner Dual Format 4xDVD-+RW and -+R.
is there any thing i can do to fix it ?? oh and when i go to my computer the DVD dirve don't say it a CD Drive but say it a "Local Disk" is it only hard drive say local disk ???. please help or do i need to format my drive and reinstall my os ?? but what if it the proble come back after days of used ???
 
You definitely shouldn't have to go through the trouble
of re-installing the OS. It does not sound right that it
recognizes it as a "local disk". First I would unistall
the drive (both physically and at the software level) and
then reboot the computer. Then, shut down again,
physically install the dvd-drive, and if it's plug 'n
play windows should be able to add the new hardware
correctly. If it needs a driver and can't find it the
provide the driver through the cd that probably came with
the dvd-drive.

After all of this look and see what windows recognizes it
as (i.e. dvd-rom, hard disk, etc.). If it's still
recognizes it as a local disk then I would remove the
drive again check to see if the jumper is set correctly.
The definition of 'correctly' in this case is dependent
on your computer setup. If it is the only drive then you
want to set the jumper to 'Master', if not then set it to
slave. Install it again.... :) If after all of this it
still says local disk then I'm stumped.

AS FOR the dvd not recognizes DVDs, check the December 25
thread at 2:42am by George. The reply to his post
by "Unkown J" states that the DVD drive might not have
the correct region set and it shows you how to check that
out and fix it.
