I have an HP DVD writer dvd200e that I have been using with no problem on my
old Presario Notebook. I just bought a new Presario notebook to replace the
old one and did a wipe and fresh install of WinXP Pro. When I plug in the
DVD Writer it is recognized as a 'dvd/cd-rw drive' and I can read CD's and
DVD's no problem. As soon as I insert a blank DVD+R (from a known good
stack) the icon is immediately replaced with 'CD-Drive' and if I double
click on the icon I get a error message 'e:\ not accessible - incorrect
function'.

I think in the past the icon on the system was 'DVD-RW'. HP has no specific
drivers for this burner as it is natively supported in windows.

The drive is both firewire and USB 2.0 - either way I connect it it responds
the same way.

I am running Win XP Pro - SP1a with all patches.

TIA

Marcus

XP will recognise the burner, BUT if youre
using XP's built in burning. It may not work

As it doesnt support packet writing.

You need something like Nero or CD Creator
5 with updates or 6. Or software that can
recognise the burner and use it.
