I installed an extra DVD burner on my new Emachines. It was one that I had
from my last computer and never used. Now the first DVD burner won't work.
Device Manager shows it and that it is working but they both have the same
drive letter. Anyone got any ideas other than uninstalling it?

There are a series of small pins on the back of the drive and usually a diagram
inscribed on the bottom or top of the drive that will tell you which pins should
be jumpered with the small jumper. Set one to Master (M) and one to Slave (S) if
they are on the same IDE cable to the motherboard. Or set both to Cable Select
(CS) if they are on the same IDE cable. If they are on the same IDE cable as a
hard drive you will have to see how the pins are set on the hard drive. If they
are SATA drives (one thin cable going to the motherboard, there is no jumper to
set.

If you can not determine how to do this go to the manufacturer's web site for
instructions.

You nailed it. I didn't notice the jumpers when I installed it. Thank you

You're welcome.

Good to hear you solved the problem.

In a rush, I've done it myself. Very easy thing to forget.
