Is there any reason why my DVD spins up and down constantly whenever I use
my dial-up connection? When I am offline the DVD drive is silent as it
should be. When I initiate a connection it starts spinning up for a few
seconds, then idles down, spins back up, idles down. It may continue this
until I disconnect or it may finally idle down for long periods. ANy
suggestions?

i think this is partially because of internet explorer's
integration with windows explorer...when you type in the
address bar, windows queries all drives to see what's on
them.

there's no way around this that i know other than removing
the cd/dvd.

It's bizarre because 1) it started doing it recently with no other system
changes I can think of and 2) I have a CD-RW drive but it remains idle.

it may have someting to do with the position of a drive on
the cable, too. my solution is to pull the cd's out.
