DV Capture not working after installing SP2

Installed SP2 yesterday and now I can't capture from my Sony DV. I have:

HP ze5200 Notebook running XP Pro
Sony DCR TRV320 connected with Firewire
MM 2.1.4026.0 (I guess this was part of SP2)
XP Firewall is ON (but I tried turning if OFF once and there was no
difference)

The system properly detects the Sony (beeps when I connect and disconnect -
Device Manager "sees" the Sony. As soon as I try to go Next after specifying
the capture method, I get an Unknown Error and can't go any further. If I
tell it to capture the whole tape, it will rewind successfully, but once it
tries to start the capture I get the Unknown Error.

This same system worked fine (same computer, cable, DVCam, etc.) prior to
updating to SP2. I've seen references to the firewall in other threads,
which is why I even tried turning it off (and rebooted to make sure) and
still no joy. I even thought I reinstall MM but can't figure out exactly how
to accomplish that with SP2???

I'm tempted to just go back to pre-SP2 (Ghost images are a wonderful thing!)
but before I abandon SP2 I thought I'd post a message and see if anyone can
really solve this. I've seen lots of threads that seem to be a common theme
of folks having problems after SP2 (go figure).

Any real help would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention that I am running on power (not battery). Like I said,
everything worked fine until installing SP2 (and latest updates following
SP2).

Best regards,

Long shot but worth a try. I too have a Sony DV and lost capture after
installing SP2. I removed it via an uninstall and installed MM2.0 (Not
2.1) Still didn't capture but the error message was different. I then ran
across a posting claiming that reinstalling Media Player 9 would solve the
problem. I was skeptical but went ahead anyway. It worked! After awhile I
tried reinstalling Media Player 10 and it kept working.

I'm guessing that the installation of SP2 wiped out or altered some Media
Player files and all I would have had to do was install Media Player and
things would have been OK. Having said that, I haven't got the urge to
reinstall SP2 to find out.

Sometimes the qdv.dll found in sustem folder gets unregistered, especially
if another app had remapped its registration to non-standard dll/folder..
Anyway try manually registering the concerned DLL to eliminate this
possibility:

Copy paste the following line in Start -> Run dialog and press OK

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll
