When trying to capture video VIA firewire from my Sony
DCR-TRV230 to Movie Maker the video preview freezes after
several seconds and it stops capturing, even though the
camera rolls along as if it's still working. I've looked
at Papajohn's pages, tried a few things to no avail.

Here's the thing: MS has a "Hotfix" on this page:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;830363

This is reportedly a "confirmed problem" for XP with SP1
and DirectX 9- my configuration. But I have an OEM
version of XP Home, so apparently they want to charge me
money for this "Hotfix." Is there any way to aquire the
hofix without shelling out more $$$ to MS? Any kind soul
out there already download it and willing to share?

Many thanks!

Hi Tom

Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem with my camcorder Canon ZR70MC (= mv650i in Europe). Please see my posting of 1/10/2004. I searched hundreds of newsgroups about this problem in the past days - no solution found
Please let me know if you resolve it, respectively, where I can find the newest version 6.5.2600.2026 of the famous Qcap.dll
By the way there is also another new version 5.1.2600.1274 of 1394bus.sys, in case the camcorder is not correctly recognized by XP. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;82637
I looked for both files without success

Many thanks in advance
Constanti
