Hi all

I am using a Sony TRV480E camcorder, and would like to capture the
tape's contents to my HDD in the highest possible resolution. In the
capture screen, however, the DV-AVI format option is "greyed out" and
cannot be selected. Does anyone know why this might be and what I can
do about it?

Yeah, USB connection is your problem - you'll need to connect via firewire
for the DV-AVI options to work in WMM.

Also you'll need a firewire input on your PC (if it doesn't already have
one, it can be added either as a PCI card or as a PCMCIA card). The camera
has firewire in and out capability (but maybe didn't come with a cable) so
you will be able to read data from the camera and send it back should you
wish.

Evan
The DV-AVI option is only available via a firewire connection.
If connecting with USB you can't save as DV-AVI.
I very much recommend you get a firewire cable DV-AVI aside you will be much
happier with the result if you use firewire.

Thanks for all the help, I'm going to buy a Firewire cable and
expansion card asap. Just a question: since USB 2.0 can transfer data
at up to 480Mb/sec, is this a limitation on Movie Maker, or on the
camcorder? It isn't a limitation of the USB specification.

It's a limitation on the camcorder I think.
