For solving a problem regarding (i.e., replacing) a corrupted profile
(e.g., see
http://groups.google.ca/group/micro...t/browse_thread/thread/11fe45bb7d8259a6?hl=en
....)
it has been suggested I transfer to a new profile (i.e., see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us ...)

One problem I see with this approach is maintaining ownership of many
of my files that would be located in a directory, other than "my
documents" ... e.g., 'c:\share\dir_name\'.

The other aspect of the new profile I'd need recreate is special
permissions that I may have associated with many directories because,
while I manage this multiple-user computer via admin, I monitor its
use via this corrupted account. It will be a bit of a pain to
associated new permissions with all these directories ... is there an
easy way?

It is because of these doubts that I would surely love to know/remedy
the corrupted profile (see previous thread).

(also posted in XP.help+support, but no responses)
TIA & cheerios :o)

You might be able to use xcopy to do what you want. The KB article below
explains more on the xcopy options involved. Another thing that may work is
to use ntbackup to backup what you want to copy and restore it to the new
desination which should preserve permisisons unless you specify that the
restore does not in advanced settings. There is also a tool called fileacl
that can backup and restore permisisons I believe.
