To find duplicates, click on Start, click on Search, Click on Pictures and
enter the following in the textbox for searching:
*.jpg
and click search.
This will return all the photos (.jpg) files on your computer and they will
be displayed in the search return window.
Change the View (click on the View icon on the top bar) from Thumbnails to
Details.
The first column will be file Name. Right click on
Name, a menu will open, click on More and add the following: Size and Date
picture taken so these columns will be added if you don't have these columns
already.
If you have duplicates, they should be the exact same size and the same date
picture taken (provided you have a fairly recent camera with an Exif file,
XP will read the date picture taken from the Exif file).
If you now click on Size column name, XP will list the file by size
(ascending or descending values) and if you click on Date picture taken, it
will do the same thing.
It should then be easy for you to recognize same size or same date picture
taken which includes not only the date but also the time the picture was
taken.
If you simply made duplicates by copying the same file name in different
folders, just use the Name column to list the files and you should be able
to see the same file names appearing in the list. To see the folder
location, right click on the file name and click on properties and the
folder location will be listed.
