I am receiving an error "Duplicate Names on Network" when
Windows 2000 Professional loads. I viewed the user
profiles and passwords in the control panel and sure
enough and what I see is the Administator/Trish and also a
Group/Trish how can I delete one of the names because when
I try it gives me an error that it "cannot preform this
operation on built-in accounts". Help I'm totally floored
on this one please.

In addition to the info below I thought I should add that
I also use the Mocrosoft Wireless Baystation Router for
networking, the workgroup name is also Trish could this be
part of the problem and if so how can I correct the
problem?

thanks in advance
trish

The "duplicate name" error is a network error typically
referring to another machine or workgroup with the same
name as yours -- not usernames or groups. You should be able
to see the error in the event log.

If you have file-print sharing on the network connection enabled,
try unchecking that and rebooting to see if the problem
goes away. You can also try simply changing the name of your
computer to see if it fixes it. If not, an "nbtstat -n" can often
point you to the cause.

After running nbtstat -n here are the results I get
returned:

NAME TYPE STATUS
______________________________________

TRISH <20> UNIQUE REGISTERED
TRISH <03> UNIQUE REGISTERED
ADMIN. <03> UNIQUE REGISTERED
TRISH <6A> UNIQUE REGISTERED
TRISH <87> UNIQUE REGISTERED

Now what I am not aware of what the above is other than
maybe logical addresses of some sort.
What do I need to do from here.?

Thank you in advance ... trish

I resolved the error, I changed the computer network name
to another name and deleted a user out of the system
profiles. After rebooting the system reassigned names and
workgroups and added a few user groups. This worked for me.
