be); nothin in dns, no host file...dont know where it is
getting this name resolution from....

If you can help, please do (e-mail address removed)

Well, this is somewhat confusing. You say you it has two names? Two DNS A
records or two NetBIOS names (which doesn't seem likely).

Does this machine have dual NICs?

Ace,

Cant find where it is picking up the second name
(server). Can ping either one (server1 or server). Only
A record in DNS...server1. No Cname records; only alias I
am able to find is in the SRV record, but it has some
wierd name (cffecd...yadi, yadi). No host recrod resolving
server name...real confusing...single nic
machine....havent seen this one...any help
appreciated...when I try to connect to gpo (default
domain) get duplicate name error and cant
connect....strange....

Thanks,
Rob

I seem to have the same problem - but My server is a dual
NIC. Set the first nic to 192.168.1.10 and the second nic
to 192.168.1.11. On every boot it tells me there's a
duplicate name on the network but I only have one nic
connected and I removed the .11 from the forward and
reverse lookup zones. Running "nbtstat -n" displays;
Server1 <20> Unique Conflict
Server1 <03> Unique Conflict
IS~Server1 <00> Unique Conflict

It's been several years since I got that involved and now
I am lost.
any ideas??

Regards,
taaper

What is that weird name in the SRV record? Not sure what cffecd means,
unless that's the Forest alias, which should be there anyway under the msdcs
folder.

Maybe if you can provide the actual names, that may be helpful.
Can you post an unedited ipconfig /all?

Are you using WINS?

What happens when you do an:
ipconfig /showdns?

No host recrod resolving
server name...real confusing...single nic

Does the record exist for either server or server1?

How are you pingin?
server.domain.com
server1.doman.com

or just
server
server1?

Can you connect to your domain this way thru Internet Explorer?
\\domain.com\SYSVOL ?

Disable NetBIOS too.

But curious why two NICs on the same subnet? Suggest to use the
manufacturer's NIC teaming software if looking for load balanancing and
fault tolerance.
