When booting a workstation to the RIS server, I receive an error message
that a duplicate GUID has been detected. It does not state the name of the
duplicate GUID nor have I been able to find any duplicate computer account
in our Active Directory. I have also been unable to find any documentation
on removing duplicate GUIDs from AD. Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA

You could use ADSIEdit or ntdsutil to remove the duplicate object.

A duplicate GUID could also possibly (highly doubt it) from a NIC with a
duplicate MAC. It may also be a duplicate computer account that RIS is
installing on that the computer account hasn't been deleted yet before a
reinstallation attempt.

1. Search AD for the GUID.
2. Is this a RIPrep install or a CD-based install?

This is a RIPrep based image and I get the error during the Client
Installation Wizard portion of the process. The funny thing is that the CIW
does not return the object name of the duplicate GUID like it is supposed
to. How can I search AD for the GUID?

Are you comfortable with ADSIEdit?

Laura

I am running into this problem also. I get it durning text mode, before I
pick the image. Pretty odd. I do feel some what comfortable with ADSI Edit.

Never mind, I am an idiot. I was testing out the different settings for
naming computers. I had set it to custom (%firstname-%lastname) and forgot
to set back to a nice random one.

If you're familiar with Ldp.exe you can use it to search for the GUID. But
be careful, Ldp is a powerful tool.

Yes ... but I have never seen any search functionality for it.
