Duplicate folders in my PST????

OK....here is my problem. I reinstalled windows & office 2003, of
course when i started the config it created a new pst file. so i
imported my .pst file and now i have the regular inbox in the inbox a
folder in the inbox, etc. it seems to have merged my pst with the
pst....does that make sense??

confused? so am i!! PLEASE HELP ME!!

You've just found out why importing a pst is NOT recommended. (This is
posted in the Outlook groups at LEAST once a day....)
Create a new Outlook Profile and OPEN the old pst file.

I have always done this way with no problems. I think I messed up
where you have the option of importing into the same folder, etc. I
guess I have to start all over again. Any other ideas?

No, but do NOT use the import function! It's not designed to migrate data
from one Outlook to another...Just OPEN the pst file by going to
File-Open-Outlook Data File....
 
Not sure what ideas you're looking for since Gordon already provided the
correct approach. Let me second Gordon's solution as being the right way to
do it whether or not you have always imported in the past - absolutely no
reason to import from a PST file to accomplish what you want to do and is
one of the absolutely worst ways to go about it. Sooner or later - that
approach will "bite you" in ways that you may not find out about until it's
far too late to do anything about it especially if you are moving across
Outlook versions. There are a lot of situations where importing/exporting is
required (the only choice) but guarantee you that this is NOT one of them.

To expand slightly on Gordon's answer, all you need to do is

#1 - Add your old PST data file to your profile if it's not already present
(either existing profile or a new one)
#2 - Make it your default for email delivery
#3 - Eliminate the "newly created" (or original default PST file) if in the
profile - totally unnecessary

Once done - you are exactly at the same point you were at prior to your
re-install of O'2003 with no aggravation, duplicate folders or potentially
"lurking" data issues.
