Duplicate file names

I have duplicate file names inside one folder. The file names are all lower
case.
I can open both.....they appear to be the same.
I am afraid to delete one of them as it might be linked differently.
I am unable to publish/save my site due to this problem.

Note: It would be nice if front page could alter duplicate file names while
publishing.

What is the solution?

What are the files? Pages? Images?

IF it's something like this:

MyHelppage.htm(l) and you also have: myhelppage.htm(l)

You'd be best to stick to myhelppage.htm(l) - the all lowercase choice.
Same thing for image files. You can delete the mixed case or uppercase files
and FP should correct all links. If you do this, before you Publish, it
wouldn't hurt to run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

However, FP does create some duplicate looking files that should not be
deleted.

With FrontPAge closed, Delete all web cache files, named *.web
These are located at
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
or download the FP Cleaner tool from www.95isalive.com/fixes which will do
this for you.

No they are lowercase. I will have a file called schedule.htm and another
schedule.htm in the same folder.
Why?

I don't think that's possible...look closely are you sure it's exactly the
same?

Try deleting all web cache files.
These are located at
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
With FrontPage closed, copy the above path into the address bar of Windows
explorer, and delete all *.web files found. One of these may be corrupted
and causing the apparant duplication.

There is a tool, FP Cleaner, available at www.95isalive.com\fixes that will
delete the cache files, and also the FrontPage temporary files.
