Frequently asked questions about Norton AntiVirus Email Scanning
Q. Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email
Scanning?
A. Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this.
To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."

Turning on or turning off email scanning in Norton AntiVirus
Turning off email scanning will not interfere with your computer's
protection against viruses. Your anti-virus program's email scanning is a
redundant form of protection, which only scans email messages in transit to
and from your computer. Your program will still fully protect you if you
should happen to open any infected files, or when you manually or
automatically scan your computer's disks for viruses. In addition, email
scanning often leads duplicate email, server name changes in email account
setups, and other unnecessary problems.

Stop your Anti-virus from scanning incoming and outgoing mail.
After furious head scratching, heshie75v asked:
| Why is outlook producing duplicate e mail messages. I thought
| this was an error on someone else part, but after sending myself test
| messages I find that outlook actually produces TWO of the same e mail
| messages...Why??? How do I stop this?
| Thanks
While this may or may not be accurate, it doesn't seem like a
satisfactory solution, since one of the biggest purposes of AV software
IS to scan incoming email. It also doesn't seem like a necessary
solution, since there are many of us who have AV scanning of incoming
and outgoing messages enabled that DON'T get duplicate messages.
Is there another answer?
I doubt this is the answer, but I have occasionally seen similar
symptoms on my own installation from one of two causes: 1) For one
reason or another, Outlook fails to delete the message from my mail
server, resulting in it still being there the next time a Send/Receive
is done. (This only happens intermittently, of course). 2) Having a
"Move incoming messages" rule applied that doesn't include the "stop
processing further rules" step, so that a subsequent rule (like an
anti-spam rule) moves the same message someplace else.
Neither one of these seems to be what the OP is talking about.
