Jeff

I want to be able to leave a second copy of my email on my
POP server thru my ISP. I select the option to leave a
second copy on the server. The reason I want to do this is
so someone can check my email and respond while I'm out of
the office. I want to be able to receive the second copy
on my laptop. My ISP says that the issue is within Outlook
and how it is told that it has already received the
message. This makes sense, but how do you tell Outlook
that it has already received a copy of the message, so it
doesn't download it right after receiving the first copy ?

Hi Jeff,

Outlook has the feature for POP3 account to leave the downloaded message on
the server. This feature is called "Leave a copy of messages on the
server". You can try the following steps to enable this feature:

- Assuming you are using Outlook 2002.

1. Click "Tools"->"E-mail Accounts".

2. Select "View or change existing e-mail accounts".

3. Pick up the account you would like to edit. Click "Change".

4. Click "More Settings".

5. Check "Advanced" tab, and you will be able to select the option of
"Leave a copy of messages on the server".

When this feature is enabled, Outlook will download the email from the POP3
server without deleting it. Therefore another user can download it again.
Please be advised that this email can only be downloaded once for each
Outlook email profile. In this feature, Outlook will use unique ID for
these emails to mark if they have been downloaded. In this case, this needs
the POP3 server to support unique ID. Otherwise, you will download this
email repeatedly. ^grin^ Also, your POP3 server should support to download
emails for more than once. Otherwise, the server will automatically mark
the email as undownloadable for a second try.

I hope this addresses your concerns. Please let me know if this solves this
issue or if you need further assistance.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Eric Shen
