My XP Pro system recently began requireing a CHKDSK upon
start. Looking at the disks under My Computer, I see my
normal A-E drives, my I and J drives, and now a 'new' F
drive. The F drive is actually a ghost copy of the I
drive.

A-E reside on Drive 0 as partitions. I and J are on drive
1. I can work with all my drives, except F, through the
administrator's disk tools. F does not appear as a drive
anywhere except in the file cabinet and I cannot get rid
of it because it doesn't exist under the disk tools
package or under PartitionMagic 8.0

How can I get rid of this ghost?

I had a similar problem a couple of days back, and no one here knew of a
solution.
So, I decided to run CHKDSK on all my drives [5 partitions on 4 diff HDDs],
and reinstalled XP.
Things are back to normal now, except for my J drive being scanned on
start-up everytime.
Good luck.

The only thing I haven't tried is re-installing XP. I
guess that's next.

It started with my I drive, which is now pretty much back
to normal, except it gets scanned every time on startup
and comes up as two disks when you check it under the
defrag program. Check yours under defrag to make sure
you don't have two J drives.

Thanks for the response.
