Hello,
We had a strange occurence on a server yesterday. The server is a W2K server
running on a Proliant 580 G2 with a Smart Array 5302. There are 2 18GB
drives installed locally, and the drives are configured as a RAID 1 array on
the 5302 controller. This array is the C: drive in W2K, where the OS is
installed. The server has been running in this configuration for 2 years
with no problems.
Yesterday, a new physical drive mysteriously appeared in W2K, and assigned
itself the D: drive letter. This new D: was an exact copy of the C: drive.
My first thought was that the RAID 1 array had broken, so the OS was now
seeing the 2 physical drives separately, as opposed to 1 logical drive.
However, I checked the array controller, drives, and array in both HP
Insight Manager and the Array Configuration Utility, and everything was
reporting ok.
I rebooted the server, and everything went back to normal. Any ideas about
what happened?
Thanks!
Jeff
