Duplicate a hard disk

I recently broke a 1.8 HDD on my notebook computer and lost all data on the
HDD. I just got repaired from the supplier and would like to create a
backup HDD in case of same issue in the future. Can someone advise me how
to accomplish this task.

In addition to using something like a USB external hard disk to store an
entire hard-disk drive image, using software such as Acronis True Image or
Norton Ghost,
....you might also consider implementing a more frequent "data only" backup -
e.g. simply "copy'ing" user created files onto something like a USB
pen-drive

An external hard disk is ideal, you can use the built-in backup utility to
backup. You could also use Norton Ghost to make a copy of the whole disk as
well. There are numerous options available.
