Hello all, thanks in advanced for any help. I have about 2000 pages
that I want to scan that are double sided and I dont have a duplex
scanner and dont want to pay .25c per page at Kinkos. I have a decent
scanner with a document feeder but I need software that will allow me
to scan them 1 side at a time and number them properly. I have found
Abbyy Finereader and the option of Odd/Even numbering works awesome,
problem is the program wont save unless you OCR it. I want to be able
to just scan the top side of my book with the software numbering the
pages 1,3,5,7,9,etc,etc, then flip it over and do the back side
numbering 2,4,6,etc,etc and simply save it as a PDF. Anyone know of
software that will do this? I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Adobe Acrobat does this also ... scan the fronts first, then the backs
(on a non-duplexing scanner) and it properly merges them into a single
properly collated document.

It will take a great deal of attention from you, but Irfanview has a batch
scanning mode that auto names and auto increments.

If you scan to individual TIF files, and increment two numbers each file. It
would not be hard to combine the individual tifs into a single multipage
image.

Irfanview has a multipage TIF function.

You can save a Multipage TIFF, then OCR the TIFF.

You can use MS Office Document Scanning. It is part of the MS office tools that came with MS Office 2007. It has a checkbox that allows you to say that the document is double sided. It will use the twain drivers of any scanner. If you have a document feeder it will scan the front sides first, then it will prompt you to reload the document with the backs towards where it would be scanned. Please note that on most printers, if the order of the pages will now how to be reversed, so the back of the last page goes after the last page front, otherwise it will follow the front of the first page. Try it first with 6 page double sided document so you know you have it right. The drawback is that it only saves in TIFF file format, so you may want to use infranview to convert it to PDF. Hope this helps people in the future trying to do this, as it is probable too late for you.
