Having a serious problem with data corruption and crashes
with this game and my new P4. The game is unplayable
becuase every few minutes there is a corruption error and
the .dsres files go splat!

The official MS tech support article says that simply
indicates that they are "pushing" the hardware to the
limits and points to over clocking and bad hardware. The
KB articles indicate this is a known problem with the
game.

This system is almost state of the art and has not been
over clocked or tweaked. It has proven stable and
reliable in every other task that I have used it for over
the last couple weeks. Hardware diagnostic software I
use at work - indicates no problem even after 24 hours of
stress testing it.

Any ideas or suggestions? I have the latest version of
the game and all patches. I've read the KB and
investigated what they have there.

This "games that click" os a game that only crashes.

Hi Alan,

One thing that could cause corruption would be antivirus
software or other system tools running while you play...

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

4. Go to the Windows Update site for everything under Critical and
Recommended: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://NibblesNbitsVideo.tk

Sorry...Should have mentioned that before. I have done
all of these before asking for help. I stripped the
machine down to the bare bones trying to resolve this.
The machine has all updates, latest drivers, I even
removed certain hardware to strip the machine.

Hi Alan,

Make sure to test your RAM and Hard Drive several times
to identify if there's a hardware failure causing the issue.

Have you tried working with the known issues diagnostics on the Dungeon
Siege site: http://www.dungeonsiege.com/known_ds11.shtml You can also go
into Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and click on
Application in the left panel. This will review an events listing in the
right pane where you can right-click/select Properties on any error
messages, which might give a clue to the problem.

I had the same problem - did all the same things. I didnt see your hardware specs, but if you happen to have a ATI Radeon video card ( mine is a 9800 PRO ), try version 3.4 of the Catalyst drivers.

The problem you are seeing exists on versions 3.9, 3.10 and 4.1 of the Catalyst drivers for sure. Dont know about revisions between 3.4 and 3.9. But moving back to 3.4 solved all my problems. Game play is solid as a rock now.
