Any ideas?

Hope you did this upgrade with the support of your manufacturer, otherwise
you may have voided your warranty. I always have to ask myself why it is if
people feel they need XP Pro why didn't they just order the PC with Pro in
the first place, or if doing a clean install themselves, just install Pro?

What happened here is that you previously had Service Pack 1 installed in
XP Home and now you have upgraded with an XP Pro CD that does not
include SP1. Be advised that not only did you wipe out SP1 but all other
critical
updates as well, including the patch for the vulnerability in RPC that
leaves you susceptible to msblaster and related worms. Once you have
restored your
dial-up connection with the steps in 329441, make sure that the
XP ICF is enabled or your own third-party firewall is functioning before
connecting
to the Internet. Then you will need to go to the Windows Update
site and re-install XP SP1A and all other critical updates again.
Be sure to reboot after installing SP1A, then get the other critical
updates.
Also, it is probably a good idea to temporarily disable your Anti Virus
before
installing SP1A or any critical updates, so that the AV will not interfere
with the
process. The easiest way to get to Windows Update is to first click on
"Tools"
at the top of Internet Explorer.
