I am going to upgrade from a Win98SE/Win2k dual boot to Win98/Win2k/WinXP
triple boot system.

Does anyone know of a backup utility for DUN settings that can then be
restored to all three new installations?

Thanks

Carol

Place a clean floppy disk in drive a:
and drag ISP icon from Dial-up Networking folder to A: drive.
It will create a DUN file.
Place the floppy in the destination A: drive
and drag it to Dial-Up Networking folder
to create an ISP icon there.
Or double click the DUN file to set it up.

It does that in Win98 but not in Win2000.

If I drag DUNs in Win2000 it just says it can't move or copy the file and
offers to make a shortcut.

Thanks - that works.

I did try v.1.11 which didn't and I couldn't find v. 1.12

Just one more question - how do you get the DUN file created to restore the
user name and password when you reinstall from it? It backsup the username
(but the password is just a row of ****) but when you recreate the DUN from
it it ignores both the username and password in the DUN file ???

Try the url posted by Scrapps.
I tried but the site is unreadable.
If you do not get anywhere then come
back. I can email the zip file to your
email not to this ng.

This is a direct link and has info about password etc

Yes I know - that's what I have. It seems to save the user name but the
password is not saved correctly and when you come to recreate the DUNs
neither user or password are put in.

I think the .DUN files produced by the backup app are slightly incomplete.
Better than nothing though.

Thanks

Its for your security, otherwise anyone could install the program on your
computer without your permission, get the backup file and use your
internet account on their computer

I realise that - just curious to know if there is any way to manually update
these .DUN files in a way that sets up the connection including account
details.

Interestingly I just signed up for an ISP that provides a downloadable .DUN
file to set up the correct connection. The file includes username and
password but it still doesn't set up the DUN fully!

Also anyone any ideas what changes were made between Win2k and WinXP ? The
ISP provides different files for Win9x2k and WinXP. If I run the WinXP
version the DUN created doesn't have any telephone connection - it is an IP
to IP network connection?

Cheers

This will save user name and password in
text format. It may be a security risk.
I have the zip file downloaded some ago,
but could not find the current version.

I renamed the .DUN files (Win 98SE) to a .INS extension and added
a [User] section with my password etc.
This still doesn't deal with some settings though.
The resultant .INS file is updated when run, so can't be run direct from CD.
(the created dun is set as Default)
