This is very basic and I know should be able to figure it out myself, but if
you have time (after all this is the basics newsgroup):
So my daughter has no configuration screen anymore on her XP home computer.
She clicked on 'hide' somewhere, but now she can't "un-hide" it anymore.
Help.
thanx in advance
jk

Oops, I meant 'control panel'. I was back-translating from Dutch
("configuratiescherm"), turning it into double-dutch.
Sorry, even my English is dummy.

I'm not at all sure what was done to "hide" it and from where ... sorry.
To run the control panel and get access the applets, just run
"control" via Start/Run menu.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Right-click a blank area on the Task bar, the bar at the
bottom of your desktop. Select PROPERTIES, START MENU
tab, ADVANCED tab, CUSTOMIZE.

I didn't know that, that's useful to a lot of people. Just
tried it in the CMD window and it open the control panel
from there too. Have not tried it from the recovery console
but will try that next time I reboot.

Mmm, Sorry I just don't understand what she's been doing and she doesn't
remember exactly. Somewhere she clicked 'hide' and now the control panel is
gone. That is all we know.
On a different computer (my son's) I could not find this option it either.
(I have win 98, only the kids have XP...)
Perhaps I should do a 'restore' or something like that?
thanks for your interest

Keep it simple. Just add a new shortcut to "control". Who knows what
else you'll break if you do repair/reinstall.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Sorry, actually 'control works', although I still don't understand what
happened.
Thanks!

Right click on a blank area of the Task bar, select
properties, then select Start menu/Customize/advanced and
you'll find options to display the control panel and other
functions.
