Sort of dumbfounded, but wanted to see if anyone else has seen this.

I bought a new motherboard and installed in my box. hook everything up, hit
the power button and nothing happens. So, i spent a few hours trying a new
power supply, taking the board out and trying to boot it, and a few other
things.

so, finally, i pull out tha manual and start nosing around. turns out the
jumper on the mb was set to clear cmos, not for normal operation. switched
it to normal and it booted up. IS THIS A STANDARD WAY TO SHIP MOTHERBOARDS?
i was going nuts...

Some manufactures set to bios jumper to clear in order to conserve battery
till it is sold and used. I believe SOYO MS's do this as this is the way my
new MB was set when purchased.

If you would of "pull out tha manual" prior to installing the motherboard
, it would of informed you of this. Not to bright , but you're lucky ! Jym

Greetings --

If I remember correctly, it's standard procedure to read the
manual _before_ starting the installation.

Bruce: i know you mean well by being a know it all, but the truth is, the
manual actually said nothing about the fact that the jumper was set to clear
cmos. as a matter of fact, me mentioning that fact had really nothing to do
with my resolution. i had thought about the jumper being in the wrong place
long before i looked at the manual, but the manual only showed exactly where
it was, not that i couldn't have found it myself. in my experience, the
standard procedure is that no one likes someone who, in his attempt to be
helpful, actually comes across as "i'm better than you"...

Hey jim, the not to bright one is the one that assumes a manual is going to
say somewhere that the jumper was set to clear cmos. if you're going to
respond to a thread, being a wise ass doesn't help.
