I want to password protect some of my files on my
laptop. Is there any way to do this in Windows XP? I am
sorry it is such a dumb question but after hunting
through my computer i couldn't find a way to do it.
Thank you ahead of time for the help

Windows XP does not have the capability to password-protect
an individual folder. Instead, see the following:

HOW TO: Set the My Documents Folder as "Private" in Windows XP

You Cannot Select the "Make This Folder Private" Option

There is no password feature for files and folder under
XP. However you may try some third party softwares if you
want. Well you may try applying the NTFS permission both
in files and folders.

-->>right click the file or folder
----->> select properties
-------->> security

Then choose the desired permission.

Hope it help you.
NOte: This will only work under NTFS not FAT32.
Code: Triple A

Like Win2K, WinXP's file security paradigm doesn't rely on, or
allow, the cumbersome method of password protection for individual
applications, files, or folders. Instead, it uses the superior method
of explicitly assigning file/folder permissions to individual users
and/or groups.

Of course, if you have WinXP Pro, you can encrypt the desired
files/folders.

As a work-around, you can place the file in a compressed folder,
and set a password to uncompress the folder to view/access its
contents.
