Dumb but Urgent Question about Most Recent Date

How do I specify that a subform or report specifies only
the most recent date? There might be a long series of
dates but I need to show only the last one. I'm sure it's
easy but I can't seem to do it with Max or Last.
 
If they are based on a query, you should be able to
achieve this by sorting descending on the date field and
then setting top values (in the query properties) to 1.
