I have a laptop with Vista. I want WinXP (Drivers are available from Dell)

Can I install WinXP on the same drive? Or does it _have_ to be on a
separate drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends. if you have a Recovery DVD for your machine (as opposed to a
genuine Vista DVD) then it's going to be almost impossible to set up a dual
(spelling - although your subject line might be a pun!) boot system, because
as you are supposed to install the earlier OS first, when you then boot from
the Recovery DVD it will wipe everything on the HDD out.

When first booting off of any recovery disk as well as a separate full
version dvd right under the Install Now button you should see a link for
the repair tools. You don't proceed with the installer but go into the
separate section.

If lacking you can also download and burn a repair tool disk from the
link posted earlier since that was made intentionally for both desktops
and laptops seen without the recovery disks included.

For seeing XP added on after Vista that's done all the time.

Okay, thanks guys. Hopefully my partitions won't duel!
(But I'm thinking if I had any guts at all, I'd just wipe it clean and
install WinXP)

"InOverMyHead",
You need to consider how big your drive is? I am using approximately 30 gig
with Vista and same with windows xppro! Then you will want additional space
so as to be able to run disk dfrag , restore points, backups, or just adding
new applications? Hope this will help! Night Hawk gave you some excellent
links and advice good luck!
