I tried to download and install a small weatherwatching program but got an
error message during the installatin that read as follows;
C\:WINDOWS\system 32\unzip32.dll the existing file is read onl.Click retry
to removethe read only attribute and try again.Ignore to skip this file or
abort to cancel installation.
I cancelled but would appreciate somebody telling me what I should do to
install the program thanks.

Try R.clicking the download from the web site, select "save as" save to a
specific
area (my documents) or so,R.click the folder, extract all....

Thanks Andrew but it's the installation thats the problem. Right clicking
the download link just gives me 'in page' options [email this page etc]. I
did save the setup to my docs anyway but the same problem occurs. Would
changing the destination [C\:Program files] make any difference? or does the
system 32 file still play a part?

Apparently unzip32.dll is the InfoZIP UnZip DLL.

Try this.

Start | Run | Type: system32 | Click OK |
Hit your U key a couple of times, now scroll down a little more until you
see unzip32.dll.
Right click on unzip32.dll and select Properties.
On the General tab UNCheck where it says Read-only.
Click Apply then click OK.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

unzip32.dll isn't a System file, it's added by InfoZIP.

The System32 folder contains essential system files, but it also contains
many 3rd party files.

unzip32.dll may be essential to InfoZIP or other programs that use it, but
unzip32.dll is not essential to Windows XP.

Windows XP built-in zip support uses zipfldr.dll.

Thanks Wesley. I can see you're qualified so please excuse my doubts
[paranoia] I thought system files weren't to be tampered with. Would you
be able to explain in lay terms why this D|L needs access to a system
file. --
