Dualview for desktop PC

I want to have two monitors connected to one PC which show the same desktop
image. I do not want an image extended over to the second monitor.
I have installed a video card which supports dual video and the two monitors
work fine with one as the #1 and the other the #2 extended desktop monitor.
I cannot figure out any way to get the #2 to mirror #1.
It would seem this is a more primative function than the extended monitor
mode.
I did see third party software which mirrors the #1 monitor onto #2 but I
would prefer to do it directly from Windows.
Can this be done and how?
My laptop will work that way and it has the same version of Windows.
Using XP SP2.

thanks.

Well of course I tried that but the 2nd monitor is blank unless the extend
option is checked.

Then look in the specific settings for your adapter for the "clone" tick
box. Each adapter vendor may supply their own custom software, and you
have installed it, so check the advanced settings.

The OP would be restricted to the same resolution on both screens, though
IIRC you can use different refresh rates.
