Dual XP operating systems running simultanenously

I have 2 of the same XP OS running, everytime I reboot I have to choose which
one to use, It also takes alot of disk space, I want to remove one of them
any ideas???
 
Boot to xp cd,recovery,type:DiskPart In DiskPart delete a partition
(OS),create one, press
ESC when thru,then maybe type:FORMAT E: /FS:NTFS E: being new partition.

boot to the OS you want to keep

then delete the other windows folder


remove the unneeded entry from boot.ini
 
Suppose, if you one windows installed on C and another on D drive then I will
advise you to first take backup all the data from both partitions to another
partition like E (if you have) or to any removable media.

1. Start the Windows that you want to keep. I will advise you to keep the
window which is installed on C drive.
2. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties
3. Click Advanced tab - and then click Settings button - under Startup and
Recover
4. In "Default Operating System: " dialog box list the running copy of
Windows XP will be selected by default.
5. If you are not sure which entry to remove from BOOT.INI then I will
advise you to just uncheck the both options "Time to display list of
operating systems:" and "Time to display recovery options when needed".


For instance, you want to delete the Windows of D drive then login to the
Windows of C drive and the format the D drive. Make sure you have backuped
everything from D Drive.

I am advising you to keep the windows of C drive because C drive is the
System Partition for both Windows and if you will try to format the drive
within from D drive window then it will not let you do so. If by mistake if
you delete any system file while deleting folders from C drive then both
windows may got corrupt.

i have the same problem expect they are both on the 'c' drive. My original
files have been removed and lost somewhere in the computer. so for now i've
removed one of the bootini setups. My system was hanging and in frustation i
used the recovery disk to reinstall. How can i get back to my original
factory state. I would like to try and get back these files. But i'm prepared
to let them go if only i can regain some of my hard drive capacity.
 
First of all, sorry for late response. Was dead busy.

Anyway, I will advise you to first backup your current data on another
partition or removable media, if you can. As you said that your data is lost
then I will advise you to search for the same on C drive or Boot Partition
where window is installed. If you had stored the data in My Documents or in a
folder on Desktop then try searching for the same in Documents and Settings
folder. You will surely get it in Documents and Settings\User Name sub-folder.

Next, if you have a bootable Windows XP CD then restart your PC and change
the first boot device to CDROM and install the Windows. In the installation
process choose C Drive as installation partition and when asked then format
the drive and continue the setup. This will remove all the previous version
of Windows installed on C drive and will free up the disk space.

If you have installed 2 copies of windows, one of C and another on D drive
then do as said above and after you installed the windows successfully. Move
your data from D drive to another partition like C or E and then format the D
drive as well to free up the disk space from d drive.
