This is not true. XP can support many scanners on one computer. The catch
is, say you have 6 FOO 2600 scanners (or other FOO brand scanners - doesn't
have to be the same model) - you can only use one at a time because the way
the vendor didn't follow the DDK in that all these devices are sharing the
same resources. So one scanner will work, but the other won't open because
the files (resources) it needs to function are being used by another device.
However, unrelated devices may work together. In this case, I would think
they should work fine together unless they share the same file resources (or
both use a file by the same name, and therefore the second install overwrote
the file from the first install - it happens).
I think the problems lies with your HP alone. Are you using the WIA driver
or the HP TWAIN driver? I'd first recommend you use the WIA driver - since
it is the simplest to install. I recommend the following:
1. disconnect the device from the computer
2. reboot your computer and then make sure any that any HP programs are not
running when you start-up (check Task Manager)
2. uninstall any software that applied to the HP scanner
3. reboot
4. once you've logged in, follow the directions that came with your device
to install the WIA driver.
good luck!
