Dual Monitors with Original AIW Radeon?

hi

i have a 15-inch monitor that would be great for me to use as an secondary
monitor to hold all my photoshop/dreamweaver palletes, etc....

i currently have the original AIW Radeon, 32MB (and gosh darn if i don't
still love it and we get along perfectly).

i guess if i wanted to go dual monitors i'd need to get a PCI video card in
addition to my AIW. should it be ATI for best results? will XP know which
drivers are which? same question for another make of PCI card - if i get
another make PCI card, am i asking for trouble? or can i get a 128MB
Nvidia PCI card, use that for gaming etc, and my AIW for tv/dvr/capturing?

i'm hesitant to get rid of my AGP AIW card, as i said, it treats me well.
ideally i'd like this upgrade to cost less than $100... when it gets right
down to it, gaming is secondary for the additional card, and i'd be happy
making it my pallette monitor.

does anyone have a AIW dual-monitor setup? does it work? what's your
configuration? can you share the desktop between the monitors, or do I
need third-party software?

I am running a dual monitor setup with the AIW Radeon PCI card as my primary
(for the TV tuner) & Nvidia GeForce2 MX for my 2nd monitor.

The Nvidia card came with the system & I just wanted to add the TV tuner so
I got the PCI AIW Radeon.
I don't use this system for games, but works very well for development in
Win2k & WinXP.

You simply "extend" your desktop with the 2nd monitor. I works best if you
have both monitors in the same resolutions, but I does work in different
resolutions as well.

I had the same ATI AIW AGP card that you do as primary display and an old
VooDoo 3/3000 PCI as secondary that worked very nicely together for dual
display
I recently bought an ATI AIW 9600 Pro and love it

If you only need to run a second display for desktop use then pick up an
old pci graphics card from ebay, it'll be very cheap (<$10) and as long
as it's at least 2mb it'll be able to run a 15" monitor at a decent
colour depth.
 
You also need it to use a driver that's capable of relocating it's on-board
BIOS so it doesn't conflict with the primary's, something I've not been able
to find in a "cheap" no frills pci video card.

I had no problems running an old 1mb ati mach64 pci card with my old
geforce 2 agp card. If anyone's interested I can see if it'll work with
my current radeon 8500.
