Hy,

iam using 2x analog monitors and the 2nd one with
a dvi-connector. I dont like CCC because it requires
MS NET. Is there some way to make the 2nd monitor
work without CCC ?

What don't you like about MS NET? I would like to know as I have read
others that feel the same. I don't have that that I know of so I would like
to know what to avoid. Thanks.

ATi's Hydravision

Find it at their site :)

Forget Hydravision, just get ATI Tray Tools instead, or install the
Omega drivers which include the ATI Tray tools.

Most people don't like it since it takes up a lot of space, makes your system run
slower and unless you run .NET-specific software, it adds nothing to your computing
experience.

NET slowed my computer occasionally CONSIDERABLY. I dont spend $$ for
my hardware and keep this kind of crap. And yes, some 100 mb ram less
is unconvienient too.

I tried Ati traytool, but it says 2nd monitor not connected (after win
restart).

Strange enough, the 2nd display works well until the windows desktop
arrives and *sometimes* after wildly fiddling in the display
properties, it works again. But then, after a resolution change it
wents dark again.

So does windows need to know somehow about the 2nd monitor,
or does the ATI-soft just *use* it ?

I think you'll find that it is 100mb more page file in use and not
actual physical ram.

I used ATI Tray Tools with a second monitor with no issues but I'm now
using the CCC drivers so can't really say what the issue is. Go into
advanced desktop settings and make sure the second monitor is setup
correctly then use ATI Tray Tools.

i tried all possible driver & tools. so its still unresolved. but iam
sure, if i spent $$ for a lcd-display, the ati-driver wont let me
down.

Maybe, both my monitors are LCD.

Sorry for being late, but I just got both monitors set up. I guess I
did install CCC (I'm new to ATI). There is the normal multiple
monitor set up dialogue in Windows. Is that because of the CCC
installation? Are we all Linux users?

I'm not unhappy with the .NET runtime being present, I dislike the bulky
ATI Control Centre itself. yes it is pretty and yes it allows access to AI
settings and such, but it badly slows the XP startup time, and uses an
extra 50mb or more of RAM with its process(es). I cannot live with those
drawbacks and it frustrates me that ATI seems absolutely impervious to the
criticism in this area! They will not listen. My next card could be an
Nvidia simply because of this.

The system slowdowns and memory use are a factor of the ATI application
itself, not of .NET directly. .NET on its own can be handy - I have seen
some tidy and small apps run on it. Sadly the CCC is concerned with
looking pretty at the expense of size and start-up time. If you remove the
CCC don't automatically dump your .NET runtime. It isn't the enemy in
itself.

The real "gotcha" with .NET will become obvious as soon as Vista
hits the street. I hope y'all love forced subscription software, better
get those credit cards and checkbooks ready -- cuz you'll be using
them a _lot_ starting in early 2008.
