Dual loaded WinXP problem

I have a general problem that I think is really a BIOS problem, but wondered
if anyone could help. I partitioned my hard drive to try and load WinXP
(acutally MCE) and have to seperate OS on the same drive. I used Partion
Magic to create the partitions. When I attempted to load the WinXP to the
new partition, I have had a problem with the system not completly loading and
it fails and continues to restart. I have since been able to switch the BIOS
to load my working system and have removed and remerged the partions, but the
BIOS still has the other attempted WinXP loaded onto it. Every load up it
sits for 25 seconds awaiting a choice of one or the other WinXP's (the
original still works if I select it). How do I get rid of the non-working
WinXP in the BIOS startup? I do not see any options in the Boot manager at
the startup.

Hi Jeff,

That's not the BIOS, it's the bootloader menu from boot.ini. Click start/run
or hit winkey+r, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the boot.ini tab, click
the button to "check all boot paths". It should offer to remove the invalid
entry.

Right Click My Computer
Go to Advanced Tab
In Start Up And Recovery Area click the Settings Button
Change the Time To Display Operating System To Boot to a very low figure or
remove the tick from the box.
You may need to select the correct operating System first before you do this
in the top drop down list
OK, Apply OK to exit out, a re-start will be required.

Thanks. That did the trick. Incidentally, is there a way to partition the
drive and have a second WinXP OS running that partition separatly? My
attempt failed, but I am not quite sure why. I know many people who do this
but run a Linux format on the other partition.

Sure, but if you don't have existing free space on the drive you will need a
partitioning program, either that or you will need to start from scratch. If
you do have free space, run disk manager (diskmgmt.msc) and create a new
partition in the free space. Then boot with the CD and at the point where
you choose the installation location just choose the newly created one.
