Hello,

As the price of these burners has come down so dramatically I have ordered a
couple of them...The white Sony model....I have found a supply of the necessary
disks .

The question is, has anyone used them...taking the DV-AVI output from Movie
Maker...author it to a DVD image and burn.....are there any problems (there
must be some). Has anyone actually made an AVI file that is almost 2hours
long??? did Movie Maker perform OK?

What about media prices? Are they coming down as well?

Does a double sided DVD writer exist?

I have an external Sony DRX 700 UL that I have connected via firewire. My
first WMM saved just fine as a DVD from avi, it was only about 4 minutes
long. That was about 2 weeks ago.

Now the burner is not working and continues to lock up. I have contacted
Sony and am continuing to work through the problem. Please let me know if
you find out about anyone else having problems.

Hello,

I have found a company in the UK up in Liverpool that has some quite
good prices....£4.00 each for Dual Layer....and ordinary RAW at £10.00 for
25.....the prices seem good to me, but I have not had to buy any
previously....they are certainly cheaper than PC World...I am on the wrong
machine again....it's something like dvdshoponline.co.uk

Hello,

That sounds a bit of a nightmare......mine are the internal
variety....you should see the one machine...a Ricoh DVD+RW, A Mitsumi CD+RW
and now a Sony EVERYTHING...plus caddy mounted hard drives....there are
cables running everywhere.

I have done a few test burns to DVD+RW and CD+R and they check out
OK....and I have placed an order for some Dual Media...which I hope will be
here by the weekend. I am surprised that the performance for -R and -RW (CD
or DVD) is so much slower than then the +R & +RW....not thats its a big deal
anyway but I think I will stay with the +. The link for the company with
what seem to be good prices is....

http://www.dvdshoponline.co.uk/acatalog/Dual_Layer_DVD___R_media.html

I have no prior experience of them but I was pleased to see that the credit
card details are dealt with by the Royal Bank of Scotland...so this DVD
company just get the credit...not the card details....I think thats quite
neat.

I am expecting to make my first dual layer burn of a wedding and reception
so the two projects I have in Movie Maker are now going to be joined
together to make one DV-AVI file that will be about 1h 45min....interesting
times...and expensive if I screw them up :) I will if I can find the time,
put all the results up on my site.....hopefully!!

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

Hi John,

I've not invested in a dual layer yet, but from all my experience around the
net, dual layer is still having some compatibility problems in players, so
most dual layer writer owners are still only burning single layer discs,
particularly as you can buy around 10 single layer discs per dual layer.
Bare in mind that when the disc goes from layer 1 to layer 2 there will be a
slight pause as it searches, so make your movie with a blank piece at change
over time and it won't be noticed.
