Dual Layer DVD burner that runs in Millennium Edition?

Can anybody recommend one? What should I avoid? The problem I'm running
into is that most of the DVD burners I see being sold require
2000/2003/XP and I'm running ME. Also, I have USB 1.1, so EIDE/ATAPI is
the prefered interface in my case.

They all do.
Only limit is th bundled software, and AFAIK, common ones
like Nero will still run on WinME.

Trying to burn at the fastest speed possible on cheap media.

Any Internal drive that is not specifically SCSI or SATA, is
EIDE/ATAPI/ATA and would be compatible.

As for Win2k/2k3/XP requirement, investigate which software
is bundled with the drive and visit that software
manufacturer's website as they should list the OS
compatibility. I haven't recently tried to install one on a
WinME box, but my offhand guess would be that practically
any of them will work providing the software isn't something
obscure.

Nero 6 appears not to work with ME. At least they don't claim it. To
quote their site:

Microsoft ® Windows 98/98SE; Windows 2000 (service pack 4 or later);
Windows XP; Windows 2003 server

Microsoft® Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (All applications beside
InCD and Nero ImageDrive work in the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit
Windows applications to run)

Microsoft® Windows Internet Explorer 4.0 or later

LightScribe support is only available for Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4
or later) and Windows XP or Windows MCE 2004 or greater operating systems


Don't know if this applies to the bundled abridged version of Nero that
some drive makers ship.

Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this, but
offhand I don't expect it wouldn't run on ME since it does
on 98/98SE


There are passing references to WinME on their 'site as
well, within the context of various error messges one might
encounter (not just from trying it on ME but ME listed among
the other Windows versions).

Thanks for that warning. It reminds me of when I first got my Plextor
CD-RW and discovered how problematic formating CDRWs to UDF and then
using them was. I knew there would be a catch with DVD burning as well.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was the case. However, there is one that I'm
looking at which is described at Staples as having a USB2 connection and
at the manufacturers website as having EIDE/ATAPI. Guess I'll trust the
manufacturer. 80)>

viruses or warez please.

My experience has been that if a program works in W98 or W98SE, it'll
work in ME. However, I'm looking at this model:
