Dual CPU dual core on XP

would XP pro support my new workstation with dual cpu dual core (= 4 core)?

I haven't gotten my hands on one of those yet, but...

My understanding is that to the software, a dual core CPU looks like a normal
dual CPU board. Which means I believe that XP Pro should be happy to find the
dual core and use it while XP Home would not.

Have you tried it yet?

I' haven't tried it yet.

I'm sure a dual core CPU will be recognized by win XP , I was asking if TWO
cpu dual core would funcion, since seems that xp pro can only handle 2 cpu..

the question remains open...

I belive XP Pro only supports 2 CPUs, so it would be rather a waste of
resorces to run XP pro (you would only get half performance if it
would run at all). You would have to run Server 2000 or later to get
the performance that your CPUs offer. You could of course use a Unix
based system, most default kernels only support 1 CPU by default, but
it isnt that tricky to recompile the kernel for multi CPU support.

XP recognizes processors in sockets, so you can have 2 for pro, 1 for home.
Dual core is recognized the same way hyperthreading is, so it will look like
4 processors on pro and 2 on home.
