The average all-round user with a 32-bit XP Pro system tends to have 2x
512MB of RAM in dual-channel, and I've read all about XP Pro x64
instantly requiring more RAM because of the 60% increase in kernel size.

Considering the useage of a dual-core Athlon 64, would 2x 1GB feel like
a step down when migrating to an XP Pro x64 system? Could 4x 1GB in
dual-channel really become commonplace for the average all-round user?
That could get somewhat expensive.

I am dual booting Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Professional x64
Edition.

Don't know who fed you the line about Windows XP X64 needing more RAM, or
the 60% increase in kernel size, but do yourself a favor and do not listen
to him.

Windows XP Professional x64 Edition handles memory more efficiently, and
there is not a 60% increase in it footprint.

I am running 1GB Corsair XMS (2-2-2-5) in standard mode (not dual channel).
x64 runs Just fine and is in many respects faster than 32 bit windows.
