The "-X" doesn't support Dual CH.

A7N8X-X = Single-Channel
A7N8X, A7N8X Deluxe, A7N8X-E Deluxe, A7N8X-VM support Dual-Channel.

Cheers,
Ed

And I wouldn't be too unhappy about it. Dual Channel on AMD isn't
supposed to do much and seems to cause a problem with overclocking. I
couldn't get my A7N8X-DX to do better than 182*11 with 2*256 Samsung
Hyperspeed (3200 memory) in dual channel. I put them into slots 1 and
2 (so it runs single channel) and it's now doing 200*11 and I haven't
even tried going over that. Then 18 point increase in FSB has to be
much more productive than the rumored 2-3% increase in performance due
to dual channel.

Of course, as in all things, YMMV.

You have a revision 1.0x board?
v2.0 boards shouldn't be a problem hitting at least 210.

No, revision 2. The memory wasn't very good and it just hates it in
dual channel. Hopefully the Mushkin Black Level2 that's due to arrive
Monday will take care of it. But it is amazing how much better it runs
now in single channel with the Samsung.

Yeah, just replace the Northbridge with a version that supports it... Oh,
and wire the memory slots differently :-P

Not to worry, memory performance is not significantly affected for most
situations.

Doesn't cause a problem with overclocking on my system - 220MHz Dual Channel
is possible on mine with TwinX1024-3200LL

So does the Version 2.0 support Dual channel?

I am just purchasing this board and am still very curious about this. I keep
reading one message that says it does and another that says it doesn't.

I am also curious to know how critical it is to use brand name ram in this
board. I have read that it is very forgiving and other places that it will
only accept brand name high end sticks? Thanks for the advice!

The A7N8X Deluxe supports Dual Channel

The A7N8X-X does not support Dual Channel.

Some people confusingly call the A7N8X Deluxe the A7N8X-DX

Re-read the thread.

Would of been a lot less confusing if Asus would of named these boards
differently, I think it's silly!

Another thing is their FAQ for the Standard A7N8X and the Deluxe A7N8X
is all combined into one. One that stands out is this one...
Creative Lab Audigy2 sound card cannot work with A7N8X deluxe, but the
answer doesn't say Deluxe, just A7N8X, when I asked about this people
were pasting that answer and had me thinking I couldn't use the midi
port on my new Audigy2 in my Standard A7N8X. I can't really blame them,
it had me confused too once I found the FAQ and read it myself. But I
don't have that problem they claim so I assume it's only the Deluxe, and
probably the "-E Deluxe" as well, who knows?!?!

It sour fault for shortening the names!

Yep... thats not very good.

I suspect the game port issue is related solely to the MCP-T (which is what
the Deluxe has)

What if I flash the A7N8X-X mobo
with the latest A7N8X bin would
I get Dual Channel then?

Also a lot of people seem to think it's clever to try that.
And a lot also seem to think than an A7N8X bios can be and should be ok for
all versions.
Let them try is all I can say............
then when they screw up it's "I told you so"

A dual channel motherboard has two memory busses. A single channel
board has one memory bus. A BIOS flash is not going to add another
100+ logic signals to your motherboard :-(

Another thing...........
do people not read where it says that the bios is only for the board it
says.........................

Ha HA......... that's about right.................
Or burn some feathers.............cast the bones....................
