Jeff

I recently upgraded from Win98SE to Win2K. When I bootup,
the computer asks which operating system I want. How do I
get rid of this message because I only want Win2k?

Thanks in advance.

You will have to delete the boot.ini file along with ntldr
and I believe ntdetect.com. These files are normally
hidden so you may have to change the view propeties under
file types.

TROLL ALERT! POST AND RESPONSE ARE FROM THE SAME IP.
DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE!

As Rick pointed out, the advice you received from "Truth"
is wrong and damaging. Here is the correct method:

- Unhide c:\boot.ini
- Use notepad.exe to edit c:\boot.ini
- Make the "Default=" line the same as the beginning of the
Win2000 line further down.
- Delete the "Windows 98" line

Below is an example of such a file.

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect

Another method is to hit Winkey+Pause, go to Advanced/
Startup and Recovery, and simply clear the first checkbox.

It's a good thing even the directions are screwed up. This is a bogus solution ignore it.

In fact all you need to do is go into Windows 2000 | right-click My Computer | Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery | System startup | Default operating system Choose Windows 2000 | uncheck Display list of operating systems for 0 seconds.
